Developing Management
Competence
- Leadership Styles
and Models
Team leadership styles
and models need to change as the company grows and develops in order to
meet increasing and changing demands of the marketplace.
Heroic leadership
has fueled many startups to a high level of success and often is responsible
for driving a young company to get its first product(s) out the door.
The problem is that the heroic leader relies on her/his exceptional talent
and energy, rather than developing their teams and the organization. They
depend too much on their own ability and power, failing to institute systems
and procedures that would help them scale as the company succeeds and
grows.
There are three models
or styles of leadership, each with benefits and drawbacks directly related
to the stage of the business unit. Our purpose is to bring awareness to
the distinctions of the three models so that managers, rather than working
within a context that is no longer appropriate, can choose to shift to
the model that will work for best for them given the present stage of
development of their company.
- Coaching/360 Degree
Assessments
Supporting managers
on a one to one basis has become critical to overall company success.
Because organizations have become lean, leaders have precious little time
for mentoring their people. As a result, professional coaching has flourished.
New managers need to learn the basics, while managers who have been developing
experience sometimes benefit from taking a look at how others view them.
This is where the Executive Acceleration program can be of enormous value
to both individual and company growth.
The Executive Acceleration
program consists of interviews with the target manager and his peers,
subordinates and boss, along with surveys that reveal any style issues
and/or other management issues that need to be addressed. This allows
the leader to step back and see the next steps for learning and in addition
reveal what is working well.
