Developing High Functioning Teams

If a manager cannot develop and maintain a team that can make and fulfill promises to the rest of the organization, that manager will lose the identity of being effective. If the manager does not take care of the concerns of his/her people, doesn't institute the conversations and practices of a team, doesn't become an effective leader or support effective leaders, then that manager will produce breakdowns in producing action and fulfilling commitments.

Many team leaders make commitments for their teams without having assessed their capacity to fulfill on their promises, leading to breakdowns and lowered morale. To keep commitments alive and see them through to completion is competence in projects. We claim that we build projects as the actions designed to fulfill promises.

Two basic courses support the manager developing highly effective teams. They are as follows:

1. The Committed Communication system provides a foundation for basic managing and allows the manager to become proficient with the (2.) Core Competencies of management which are as follows:

  • People: Taking care of the concerns of individuals and the team
  • Teams: Instituting the conversations and practices of teams
  • Planning/Decision Making
  • Managing Projects
  • Leadership: Effectively setting direction; opening pathways for success

These five competencies are distinguished as core competencies because we have found that a serious incompetence in any one of them will eventually lead to a disintegration of the capacity to produce a team that makes and fulfills promises.
